Using Opaque

Get started

The flow from a normal wallet to a private note.

What you need

  • A wallet on Robinhood Chain with a little ETH for network fees.
  • Some $OPA to shroud.

The flow

  1. Connect your wallet. Your keys for private notes are meant to come from one wallet signature, so the same wallet gives you the same keys on any device. This depends on a wallet-key binding that is not in the circuit yet. See Keys.
  2. Shroud. Choose an amount. You approve the pool first, then shroud. The deposit is public. You receive a private note.
  3. Hold. Your notes show up in the app, decrypted on your device. Private $OPA notes earn from fees.
  4. Send or exit. Send a note to another Opaque user, or exit to any address. An exit is public.

Before you shroud

  • Read Staying private. Early on, the pool is small, and a small pool hides you less.
  • Deposits are capped, and the cap rises on a fixed schedule. See Shroud and unshroud.
