Using Opaque

Staying private

Practical ways to keep the privacy the pool gives you.

The pool can hide what happens inside it. It cannot hide what you do around it. Most real-world leaks come from habits.

Match by amount and timing

If you shroud 1,500 and someone exits 1,500 a minute later, an observer can guess they are linked. Wait, and use different amounts when you can. The longer value stays in the pool, and the more other activity there is, the harder a match gets.

Exit to a fresh address

If you exit to the address you shrouded from, you have connected your two public actions. Use a new address for exits, and do not fund it from your main wallet.

The pool size matters

Privacy comes from the crowd. Early on there are few notes, and a small pool hides you less. This is a real limit, and the deposit caps make it slower to grow at first.

Posting your address, sharing a payment link that names you, or reusing an address across services gives observers the link the pool is trying to break.

Network and device

Your wallet, your RPC provider and your network can see your activity. The app is designed to keep notes and keys on your device, but it cannot hide your IP address from your RPC provider.
